The Ace-Tones (version 1)

What better place to start than Holland. Any band that names itself after a crappy old organ (that's high praise, by the way), must at least have something. The Ace-Tones have it all. Subtitled 'Primitive Rock 'n' Roll Performed By Today's Teens', you know you can't go wrong from there! According to some The Ace-Tones somehow modelled themselves after The Fuzztones, but I'm afraid that's a little unfair. One thing that's for sure is they copied The Fuzztones' great taste in digging up obscure nuggets from the past. Indeed, 17 out of the 18 songs included in this album are covers but by the time of their second album the cover/original balance restored a bit. Their organist and drummer later teamed up with Rudy Protrudi and toured Europe as Link Protrudi & The Jaymen. Later on they even recorded two albums with Link Wray ('Shadowman' & 'Walking Down A Street Called Love') and toured Europe and Australia as Link Wray & The Ace-Men! Pretty impressive. Oh yeah, it goes without saying that this is an ace-version by all means. Lots of guts, lots of sweat and a whole lot of enthusiasm that grabs you by the balls. Nederbiet at its very best! Check it out at once. And when you're through doing that go out and buy every other volume in the 'classic to be' Teen Trash series on Music Maniac. The Ace-Tones' line-up for this album was Ace (lead vocals/blues harp/tambourine) - El Scampo (Silvertone guitar/fuzz/backing vocals) - Eric Danno (Vox organ/Vox guitar/backing vocals) - Miss Jean (Vox bass guitar) - Rob Louwers (drums and cymbals). Produced by Rob Rehorst/The Ace-Tones.
