The Clefs

Credited to (Scott). Stupendous cover from down under, one of the best. Great combination of ringing guitar chords and reverberated fuzz riff makes this an absolute winner.  The result is very catchy indeed. On the A-side The Clefs cover 'Roberta', also done by fellow Aussies (and labelmates) The Groop. It appears on the second Groop LP 'I'm Satisfied' (CBS BP 233337) released in 1966. The original 'Roberta' was of course by Frankie Ford, issued as the B-side of 'Sea Cruise' (Ace 554) in 1959. The best known version, and the one that The Clefs used for inspiration, is probably by The Animals on their second album 'Animal Tracks' (Columbia 33SX 1708) in 1965. Best version ever of 'Roberta' is of course on the Real Kids debut album from 1978 (Red Star RS-2), but then again everything on this LP is so fucking great. If you haven't heard it you're missing out on one of the most brilliant LP's in the history of rock.
