The Ambertones
These guys must have been great Yardbirds fans as well. They insert
the song with a bona-fide rave-up climax, which they presumably didn't
copy from The Troggs as The Troggs version wasn't released in the USA until
1976! So where did they get their inspiration? They transform the song
with some very simple but ingenious tempo changes, shown to full advantage
during the wild raving solo which is only a bit short for this sort of
frenzy. I bet they did an ace job when they played it live though! Strange enough the B-side
is a completely different affair as it's an out of place cover of the old
Flamingos (no kidding!) doo-wop crooner from 1959. Obviously this hispanic
band from East LA relied on a number of musical styles. Geez, what were they
trying to prove here?! |
