Beck

(translation for those of you who don't speak Dutch:'Oh irony...One time we played 'Only Everything', during one of the last gigs - and afterwards someone asks me what we had done to Beck's song. I bought him a beer and taught him very seriously all about Music, Justice and Ethics...!) That's the 90's for ya! Revisionism for the cause of art. A very typical situation, sad but true. 'Devil's Haircut' is the opening song on the album and it's credited to (Beck Hansen) although it's mentioned in the linernotes that it contains elements of 'I Can Only Give You Everything'. 'Them Again' is plundered (or sampled as it is called nowadays) two more times by Beck as the song also contains a sample of 'Out Of Sight' and another cut on the CD, 'Jack-Ass' is sampled from 'It's All Over Now, Baby Blue', all of which appear on 'Them Again'. Beck has been described in the (mainstream) press as a musical wonder but I just don't get it. OK, the guy's pretty versatile in all and I must admit that I dig some of his work but all the hype is just pure and unadulterated bullshit. You believe that, you believe anything. Wake up, ignorant fools!
