I once saw these guys opening for The Las. Must have been 1992 or so, The Stairs' 'Mexican R'n'B' LP had just been released. I bought the album and the 'Mary Joanna' EP right after the show but when I got home I found out
that I had somehow lost the EP. Took me another 8 years to find another copy! (Thanks Eric!) Perhaps that gives you an idea how much I loved The Stairs. Not many people are aware that this band released some great stuff on
the Go! Discs label. Best of all is 'Weed Bus' b/w 'Flying Machine', a true classic. At the time of that concert I saw, The Las were big in Belgium. They were having a big hit with 'There She Goes' and I thought they were
pretty neat. But The Stairs really caught my attention that night. I had never seen or heard anything by them up till then, and I became a fan overnight. The 'Mary Joanna' EP has 3 tracks in all (the 12" and CD-single have 4)
and their version of 'I Can Only Give You Everything' is sooooo cool, good luck finding a copy! Bonus points to The Stairs for their sense of humor, the EP includes a 'free STAIRTEX record cleaner' which is in fact a piece of
sand-paper. '...its regular use will lengthen the life of the record and reduce the static charge. Destroys all compact discs...' Furthermore, the songs are all recorded in mono! Oh yeah, this is a classic by all means. Go! Go!
