Them
Released January 21, 1966, this is the first and original version. The song was actually recorded late 1965 but who actually played what on the track remains a mystery as it seems that most songs on Them's second album were played by anonymous session musicians. It's certain that Jimmy Page played guitar on a number of tracks but it's not obvious on which exactly. Whoever played bass (Alan Henderson?) certainly could have done a little better than this, listen to him screwing up in the third verse. Van Morrison however is great as he always was in those days, why he never played the song live during his solo years is beyond me. 'Them Again' made it to the #138 position in the Billboard albums chart. Also noteworthy is the fact that 'Them Again' was released just 8 weeks after their first LP 'The Angry Young Them'. The backcover reads: 'I Can Only Give You Everything' was composed one stormy midnight...this is an aggressive, stomping number written with Van's raw, savage voice in mind. 'Them Again' was of course produced by Tommy Scott, who also produced 10 out of 14 songs on 'The Angry Young Them' LP. The 'official' Them line-up at the time was: Van Morisson (vocals) - Alan Henderson (bass) - Jim Armstrong (guitar) - Ray Elliott (organ/sax) - John Wilson (drums).  In Urugay 'Them Again' was issued as 'Otra Vez' and 'I Can Only Give You Everything' was re-titled 'Solo Puedo Darte Todo'.
