The Ringers
|
This isn't really a cover of 'I Can Only Give You Everything', but the closest anyone ever came in creating a new song with the same chords and attitude. It's even got the same key-change (G to G#) and all. And what's more:
it's an unbelievably great tune. 'Ask Me No Questions And I Tell You No Lies', great lyrics! Recorded in 1966 the song remained unreleased until now. The Ringers released 2 singles in their lifetime: 'Mersey Bounce' b/w
'Graduation Doll' (Bil Lou 1001) - 'Daydream' b/w 'Not The Marrying Kind' (AMP 119/129) and a third single as TR-4 (Tommy Rettig 4): 'Let It Be Known' b/w 'Never Too Young' (Velvet Tone VTR 105). 'Ask Me No
Questions' was written by (Stan Bonaccorso/Joey Vierra). Vierra was their manager and he also played the role of Porky in the original Lassie TV series when he was a kid! The Ringers were co-managed by Tommy Rettig and
he played Jeff in the Lassie series! Line-up: Rex Paris (aka Stan Bonaccorso) (bass/vocals) - Keith Johnson (guitar) - Tom Crocket (guitar) - Bill Lynn (drums). Produced by The Ringers. Thanks to Wolfgang Voelkel for
digging up and releasing this great lost album!
