Mike Evans
This novelty tune was produced by Jerry Samuels, a.k.a. Napoleon XIV. I'm not gonna do any guesswork here whether Mike Evans and Napoleon XIV are one and the same, I really don't know. 'Gruesome' is credited to (G. Evans) and published by Jepalana Music, the same publishing company that published the Napoleon XIV songs. The lyrics are lifted straight off Bo Diddley's 'Say Man' (Checker 931) and 'Say Man, Back Again' (Checker 936), both from 1959. 'Say Man', incidentally, was Bo's biggest hit! Reached #20 in the Billboard 100 charts, September 1959. 'Gruesome' gathers every 'ugly' joke ever done, for example '...she looked like she'd been kissed by a MACK truck doing 100 miles an hour...'. Although the songs starts off with '...let me tell you about my baby...' borrowed from 'Gloria', the music is 100% 'I Can Only Give You Everything'.
